5 days until the
first day of summer!

Heather B. Moore is the award-winning author of the Book of Mormon historical series, Out of Jerusalem, and writes under the pen name H.B. Moore. The next series begins with Abinadi, which won both the 2008 Whitney for Best Historical and the 2009 Best of State in Literary Arts; its sequel Alma was released in 2009, which was a Whitney finalist for Best Historical Fiction. The next in the series, Alma the Younger, will be released June 2010.

Her first non-fiction book,
Women of the Book of Mormon, came out in April 2010.

Heather graduated from Brigham Young University with a major in Fashion Merchandising and minor in Business Management—which has nothing to do with writing novels. But at least she can balance a mean checkbook and color-coordinate her kids’ school clothes.

Visit Heather’s website: www.hbmoore.com or if you’re an aspiring writer, she also manages the editing company: www.precisioneditinggroup.com.

LDSWBR: What activities do you and/or your family participate in every summer? Do you have plans to try something or go somewhere new this year?

HEATHER: My family likes to rent a boat and spend a couple of Saturdays each summer fishing at Strawberry Reservoir. We also love Flaming Gorge and Fish Lake area. This summer we went to Israel at the very beginning, so that took care of our travel plans for the year. The rest of the summer will be spent watching baseball and softball games my kids play in, and we might escape the heat to the mountains once in awhile.

LDSWBR: Do you have a favorite summer food or drink? If so, are you willing to share the recipe?

HEATHER: I love cold slushy drinks when it’s hot outside. I searched the internet, but none looked better than my mother’s recipe:
FRUIT SLUSH
2 c sugar
2 c water
Combine and boil 5 minutes
Add 2 c cold water
3/4 c lemon juice
2 pg frozen raspberries
1 c blueberries, drained
1 large can pineapple chunks
6 bananas sliced
Add all of the fruit juices except the blueberry juice. Freeze. When ready to serve let it sit out juts until you can chop it with a fork. You can add a little 7-Up or Sprite when serving.
LDSWBR: What books are on your summer reading list?

HEATHER: Just a few from my stack:

Spells by Aprilynne Pike
Pushing Up Daisies by Rosemary Harris
Women at the Time of the Bible by Miriam Feinberg Vamosh
The Silence of God by Gale Sears
The 13th Reality (#3) by James Dashner
Princess of Glass by Jessica Day George
Key Lime Pie by Josi Kilpack (out in August)

LDSWBR: Thank you so much, Heather!

I absolutely love Icees in the summertime. My favorite flavors are cherry and rootbeer. What is your favorite slushie/icee flavor?
