Jennifer Shaw Wolf grew up on a farm in the tiny town of St. Anthony, Idaho. She spent cold Idaho mornings milking cows in the dark and attended a school where Hunter’s Education was part of the sixth grade curriculum. She’s always been a writer, whether it was sewing together books to read to her little brothers or starting an underground newspaper in sixth grade. She met the love of her life at Ricks College, (now BYU Idaho), after he dropped her on her head. She graduated from Ricks and then Brigham Young University, Provo with a degree in Broadcast Communications. Now she lives in beautiful, green, (rainy) Lacey, Washington with her husband and four kids. She loves to produce videos, ski, ride horses, and read, but really all she has time for is chasing kids and writing.

LDSWBR: Do you find it easier or more difficult to write during the summertime? Why?

JENNIFER: Harder, because my kids are home and provide endless distractions. Easier, because I can write into the wee hours of the morning and not have to get up early the next morning. (My kids are all old enough to sleep in or fend for themselves.) Like most things over the summer, I have less of a writing schedule over the summer, but sometimes that freedom opens up my muse for more creativity.

LDSWBR: Would you rather be in the pool or next to the pool?

JENNIFER: I used to love to swim. Long after all my friends had deserted the lake or the pool for tanning on the side, I was still swimming. Maybe I’ve gotten old and boring, now I prefer to be poolside, in the shade with a good book.

LDSWBR: Ice cream or slushie? What flavor?

JENNIFER: Ice cream. My favorite is a limited edition Girl Scout Tagalong flavor that I can never find, so I usually go with mint chocolate chip or plain vanilla instead.

LDSWBR: Thank you, Jennifer!

Breaking Beautiful by Jennifer Shaw Wolf

Available in Hardcover and Kindle from AMAZON

Allie lost everything the night her boyfriend, Trip, died in a horrible car accident—including her memory of the event. As their small town mourns his death, Allie is afraid to remember because doing so means delving into what she’s kept hidden for so long: the horrible reality of their abusive relationship.

When the police reopen the investigation, it casts suspicion on Allie and her best friend, Blake, especially as their budding romance raises eyebrows around town. Allie knows she must tell the truth. Can she reach deep enough to remember that night so she can finally break free? Debut writer Jennifer Shaw Wolf takes readers on an emotional ride through the murky waters of love, shame, and, ultimately, forgiveness.

  5. Looks like a good book. I hope it explores how women can identify when they have gotten themselves into an abusive relationship and suggests how to get out.

  6. From Tagalong ice cream to vanilla??? Wow, that’s quite a difference I think. :) I loooooove the Tagalong cookies and ice cream, so yay for good taste! The book sounds interesting – different from what I normally read.

  7. My husband grew up milking cows on cold mornings too (in Wyoming) — however it’s not a task I’ve ever envied! I’ve heard great things about this book!

  8. This looks and sounds great. And I love the point that we usually have many interests/hobbies, but only enough time to do the top one or two. :)

  9. My grandpa was born in St. Anthony!! :o)

Now another book that I need to read!!

  12. This book has caught my interest!! I hadn’t heard of it before, but it is defintely on my to-read pile now!

  13. I just saw this book yesterday in the book store. I am very interested in reading it! I also had to milk animals growing up, but dairy goats not cows.

  14. I’ve been to St. Anthony! I always love it when I can relate to something simple like that. :) This book sounds intriguing–I’m interested in reading it.
