Julie Daines was born in Massachusetts and raised in Utah. She spent eighteen months living in London, where she studied and fell in love with English literature, sticky toffee pudding, and the mysterious guy who ran the kebab store around the corner.
She loves reading, writing, and watching movies—anything that transports her to another world. She picks Captain Wentworth over Mr. Darcy, firmly believes in second breakfast, and never leaves home without her vervain.
She is the author of A Blind Eye (February 2013), and has won several awards for her writing.

LDSWBR: What books do you plan/hope to read this summer?
JULIE: Chime by Franny Billingsley, Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey, and the two new Sarah M. Eden books coming out this summer. That should be a good start!
LDSWBR: Did you ever go to summer camp, and/or what is your most memorable camping experience?
JULIE: When I was in college, I went snow camping with my cross country ski class. I know this post is supposed to be all about summertime, but this is my most memorable camping experience. We carved tent spaces out of the snow–which was about 6 feet deep–and told wonderful stories by the fire. Everything was going fine until I had to go to the bathroom. Of course there were no facilities, we were in the middle of nowhere. The procedure for relieving yourself was basically put your skis on–because the snow was way to deep to walk on–and find a private tree.
Well, I don’t want to get into too much gruesome detail, but, let’s just say that when you squat with your pants down on skis, it’s possible the skis will head downhill at a very inopportune moment.
LDSWBR: If you could have a summer home anywhere in the world, where would it be?
JULIE: Oh my gosh I’m the worst at picking favorites. I guess I’d have to say a little cottage somewhere in the English countryside. Or in New Zealand. Or a cabin in Alaska … or Montana.
LDSWBR: Thank you, Julie!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I have never camped in the snow like Julie. However, when my brothers always got ready for snow camping when we were all little, I used to be a tad jealous.
I have camped in the snow-New Years Eve about 12 years ago with my husband and some other married friends. We snowshoed up a canyon, and when we got to our camp site we were all sweaty from the workout. Then that got to freeze while we waited until midnight to say “Happy New Year!”. It wasn’t the best night I’ve ever had.
I camped in Arizona in December and January, and there were patches of snow on the ground, but there wasn’t snow everywhere. It was mostly cold and muddy, and I had to break the ice to get water in the mornings. I love camping in general, but I don’t like camping in the winter. :-)
I have never camped in the snow. I love camping, but really REALLY do not like the cold, so winter camping and I would not get along. My hubby and brothers have talked about building snow caves that they they slept in and they said that they were warm. That just does not sound appealing to me.
I have never had to camp in the snow, I was always glad to be a girl and not a boy scout for that very reason! :)
My husband has camped in the snow and claims it is fun and warm, but I do not like being cold and do not think I would enjoy snow camping! (I would probably never be brave enough to try it!)
The closest I’ve come is staying in a lodge in the snow. Probably doesn’t count though!
I have camped in the snow, but in a cabin, which may not be “camping”, but it was still cold!
Can’t say that I have… I have heard that with proper equipment, it can be quite warm :)
No, I consider camping a “warmer weather” experience. If there is snow on the ground, I want to be staying somewhere with electricity and warm water at the ready. :)
I have never been camping in the snow, but I also grew up in a place with no snow so I never had the chance. I do not think that I will ever really want to try either, it does not sound enjoyable. I like to travel, but I also love my heater and air conditioner too much.
No never! But all I picture is Edward and Bella in the tent in the snow being protected from the evil vampires that wanted her….LOL.
If there’s anything I like less than camping – it’s snow.
This book was SO GOOD!
It has everything I love in a book…suspense, mystery, and humor, all rolled-up in a little bit of romance.
The storyline is awesome!
and no I have never camped in the snow…thankfully!
No, I am a big baby and it is too cold to camp in snow. I like the war weather thank you.
No snow camping. I have a hard enough time staying warm camping during the summer. brrrr
OK my husband can barely get me to go camping in the spring. There is NO WAY I am going out in the snow. I truly believe God gave us gifts like homes, electricity, toilets, and, well everything we have now. I like my Kindle and books too much!!
Yes, I camped in the snow. For me, camping is a special kind of he..heck. Camping in the snow was like heck frozen over.
I don’t think I’ve ever camped in the snow, but we went camping over Memorial Day one year and camped through a torrential downpour!
I have been camping and had it snow overnight which was a really neat! I read the first chapter teaser of this book and it looks fantastic!!
Not quite like that. My snow camping trip involved a couple of nights in a freezing hay field before disgruntled adults decided that enough was enough.
