7 days until summer!
Braden Bell was the least-stable, lowest-achieving middle school student in the history of civilization. He shocked every former teacher by eventually earning both a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in theatre. A middle school teacher by day and a parent by night, he is around middle-grade mayhem 24/7. He teaches choir and directs plays, but whether he fights evil evenings and weekends is something he cannot disclose. Braden lives with his wife and children on a quiet, tree-lined lot outside of Nashville, TN. He is the author of THE KINDLING, PENUMBRAS, LUMINESCENCE, and also wrote THE ROAD SHOW.

LDSWBR: What book or movie reminds you of summer?
BRADEN: This is cheating a bit since it’s TV shows. But, several years ago, my wife and I spent a very happy summer watching “All Creatures Great and Small.” That was pre-streaming, back when you had to have dvds mailed to your house via Netflix, so we’d watch a few episodes, send the disc in, get the next one and so on. Then, there was the summer we introduced our older children to quality 80s shows such as “The A-Team” and “MacGuyver.” They are gone on missions now, and so those are really cherished memories.
LDSWBR: Do you hike during the summer? If so, where is your favorite place to hike?
BRADEN: Goodness, no. I expend enormous amount of effort avoiding hiking or anything like it. I do like to work in my yard. Does that count?
LDSWBR: What is the best book you’ve read so far this year?
BRADEN: Mile 21 by Sarah Dunster. It won the Whitney (deservedly), so everyone knows about it now, but I read it way back in January.
LDSWBR: Thank you, Braden!

My mom loves All Creatures Great and Small. When it comes to classic shows, I live Dick Van Dyke, I Love Lucy, and I’ve recently rediscovered Make Room for Daddy. And just last night, Father Knows Best!
I don’t know if you would consider it a classic but I really like the original A-Team series.
I love the Dick Van Dyke show. I think it really holds up well and is still so funny.
MacGyver and Columbo.
The Brady Bunch! And Saturday nights was always The Love Boat and Fantasy Island.
Oh my goodness! There are so many! Mr. Ed, Dick Van Dyke Show, I Love Lucy, All Creatures Great and Small, Brady Bunch and Andy Griffith! Good times! I’m pretty dang excited to read this book!
I really liked “Hart to Hart” and “Remington Steele” for the mystery/romance stories they told each episode. “Scarecrow and Mrs. King” was another favorite of mine. But my husband and kids really love the old “F-Troop” series and they quote favorite silly lines from it all the time.
The Brady Bunch. I also like the Andy Griffith show.
Gilligan’s Island, Full House, Family Matters, The Brady Bunch.
Gilligan’s Island, My Three Sons, Brady Bunch, Bonanza, Flying Nun, Hogan’s Heroes, I Love Lucy
Growing up, I loved Full House and Family Matters.
I loved Hogan’s Heroes, the Andy Griffith show, and I Dream of Jeannie. Love those classics!!
From Nick at Nite it was Green Acres, Get Smart, Dick Van Dyke, I Dream of Jeannie, Mr. Ed, and I Love Lucy. And when I was growing up, Family Matters, Full House, and Saved by the Bell!
My Mom got me hooked on so many I can’t even remember but here it goes; MacGeyver, Gilligan’s Island, I love Lucy, one with a detective?, Brady Bunch, and more.
I love this series that Braden Bell does. They have been very fun for my 6th graders to read.
