22 days until Christmas!

Joan Sowards lives in Arizona with her husband and very eligible RM sons. Her life revolves around their five children and three grandchildren. Besides writing fiction, she is a family history addict, and composes a song each year based on the assigned YW scripture. (All available at joansowards.com)
Visit her blog at joansowards.blogspot.com and on Facebook.

Read her novels: Haunts Haven (an LDS ghost story) and Chocolate Roses (a Jane Eyre parody) as well as The Star Prophecy (Nephite young men set sail to Jerusalem in search of the Christ Child) all available at LDS bookstores and Amazon.com.

LDSWBR: What author/book had the most impact on you this year?

JOAN: I read the Old Testament this year and loved the experience and the better understanding of the gospel as a whole. Novel? As far as fiction, I’d have to say Save the Child by Margaret Turley. She addresses the lack of parental rights in choosing health treatment for their children who have cancer.

LDSWBR: What books are you giving/asking for this Christmas?

JOAN: I am giving The Star Prophecy, asking for LDS fiction.

LDSWBR: If you could only participate in one Holiday activity or tradition this year, what would it be?

JOAN: Sunday Christmas sacrament meeting program.

LDSWBR: I imagine that’s because you are involved with the music in someway. Listen to a sample of Joan’s beautiful music here. Okay, one last question: eggnog or warm apple cider?

JOAN: Cider!

LDSWBR: Joan, thank you so much!

The Star Prophecy by Joan Soward (Brigham Distributing; Nov 2010) is available for purchase in LDS stores including Deseret Book and Amazon.

Does your ward, stake or church put on a Christmas program? Do you participate?

  1. Addendum: My children and their friends put on a Christmas concert every year in Mesa, and it is excellent. They reminded me that that is may favorite tradition! I stand corrected.

  2. The ward does put on a Christmas program. Usually the ward choir has several numbers and then some talks on Christmas.

  3. My ward does a Christmas program. This year is the first year I am participating.

  4. No, we don't have a Christmas program that I know of. But, I'm out of the loop in the Nursery!

  5. Our ward does a Christmas program. I don't participate. I don't do good at those things.

  6. We do have a Christmas program. We have entire families go and sing a verse of a song and that is always neat. We also had a song sung in Portugese.
