1 day until summer!

At an early age, Stephanie discovered the joy of the written word. As the oldest of six children, she had many opportunities to practise her storytelling skills on her siblings. She filled notebooks with poetry, and wrote plays for her brothers, sisters, and neighborhood friends. But her biggest dream was to be a novelist.

She and her husband Rick have a combined family of six children. She still stays involved with the theatre by serving on her community’s cultural arts board, and she supports literacy by serving on the public library board. She has always used books to escape the pressures of life, explore far-away places, and learn new things. When she isn’t writing she loves to spend time with her family, sew, embroider and read. Stephanie and her family reside in Alberta, Canada.

Double Deceit is Stephanie’s second published novel.

LDSWBR: If you had an entire day to read (on the beach, at the lake, by the pool, etc.), what book(s) or genre would you reach for first?

STEPHANIE: I would reach for a mystery/suspense with a good helping of romance.

LDSWBR: What book(s) do you look forward to reading the most this summer?

STEPHANIE: My pile of books to be read is so large I want to stack them up and see if the books actually reach the ceiling. The first books on my list are Blackberry Crumble by Josi Kilpack, I Don’t Want to Kill You by Dan Wells, and The Pharoah’s Daughter by N.C. Allen.

LDSWBR: What is your favorite outdoor cooking recipe? (Can be grill, campfire, Dutch oven, etc.)

STEPHANIE: I don’t do much outdoor cooking other than hamburgers on the grill or s’mores over the campfire. One of my family’s favorite cool treats are smoothies. Here are two of our favorites.

Watermelon Smoothie
1 cup yogurt (we like vanilla or strawberry)
2 cups strawberries
3 cups watermelon
2 packages stevia powder
Blend in blender until smooth. If you want it colder or thicker, you can add ice, but we like the fruit to be undiluted.

Nectarine-Blueberry Smoothie
1 cup plain yogurt (or vanilla)
1/2 cup coconut milk
1-2 mangos
1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
Blend until smooth. I play with the amount of fruit depending on how many people I am serving. The blueberries and mangos end up being a funny color, but the flavor is divine.

LDSWBR: Ooh, yummy! Thanks, Stephanie!

Double Deceit by Stephanie Humphreys (Walnut Springs; May 2011) is available for purchase from Deseret Book and Amazon.

Are you a smoothie drinker? If so, do you make your own or do you have a favorite smoothie shop?

  1. Yummy recipes! And intriguing book.

  2. With a last name like that (however you spell it), how can you go wrong? :-) Sounds like a great book!

My family and I are not smoothie drinkers — someday we will have to give them a try!

  3. peanutbutter blast
    1 tble peanut butter
    1 cup milk
    1/2 cup ice
and chocolate syrup to taste mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  4. peanut butter blast is also good with 1 bannana added also

  5. Those are just two of our favorites. Usually I just throw yogurt into the blender and add whatever fruit I have in the house. They turn out different all the time.

  6. I love a good suspense novel. I often dont go looking for them though so when I run across one it’s always fun. My favorite smoothie recipe is a bag of frozen tropical fruit mix and a frozen concentrate mix of Passion Fruit drink. (Put fruit in blender. Make the concentrate as directed and then pour to cover the fruit.) Super easy and delicious!

  7. I really love smoothies but I don’t often make my own. I like them with more ice than most people. One of the first things I had to buy when I got back from my mission in Argentina was a smoothie. I like when they put fresh squeezed orange juice in them.

  8. I really enjoy a good smoothie. Once in awhile I will buy one for my daughter and I at our local Smoothie store. Usually I will make them in our blender using bananas, frozen fruit, and yogurt. I have added cooked wheat kernals in them, but my girls requested the wheat be left out of the smoothie. I do add honey once in awhile. The two recipes above sound really yummy. I will have to try them.

  9. Not a huge fan of smoothies because I don’t like fruit very much. I do like an occasional Jamba Juice, but I would never make my own and drink it. I’m weird. I know. :)

  10. I so need to read this book! And I am defiantly trying those smoothie recipes!!!

  11. I also follow Stephanie on facebook, twitter and her blog!

  12. I follow Stephanie on FB, Twitter and her blog

  13. Stephanie’s smoothie recipes look really good! Our blender died, so we haven’t made many smoothies lately. Love Jamba Juice though, especially anything with mango in it.
