16 days until Christmas

Jenni James is a crazy mom of 10 kiddos (7 hers, 3 fostered) when she isn’t chasing them around the house, she’s painting, cooking, planning elaborate parties, or dreaming of her next book to write. She is currently rewriting and modernizing all 6 of the Jane Austen novels for teens in a series titled: The Jane Austen Diaries.

LDSWBR: What Christmas-related activity would you like to do this year that you have never done before?

JENNI: I’ve never seen the lights in Temple Square and I can’t wait to see them! :) That’s what you get for not growing up in Utah.

LDSWBR: If you could find one book under the tree this year, what would it be?

JENNI: Ooh… A first edition of Persuasion by Jane Austen.

LDSWBR: What is your favorite childhood Christmas memory?

JENNI: Making all the yummy treats and cookies for the platters our family gave out each year. It’s so much fun, and something I love to do with my own kids now. :)

  1. I was able to see the lights on temple square a couple times during the years I attended BYU. These days I enjoy the lights at the Washington DC temple visitor center. I don’t know if I have a favorite Jane Austen novel. I initially read them in high school and didn’t like them as much as many of my friends did. I loved Jane Eyre, but found Austen bogged down with unfamiliar social rules. Recently I’ve enjoyed watching the BBC movies based on Austen’s books. These have given me a fresh perspective on her novels. I think I would enjoy Jenni James’ series if they give another perspective on this classic series.

  2. First off, I’m already stalking you wonderful ladies on FB and Twitter, so I can’t do it again. :)

I adore Jenni. She’s spunky and vivacious, and writes wonderful books. I can’t say what would be my favorite, but I’m drawn to the last one–Sensible and Sensational–because it’s still in the imagining phases. Jenni’s got one heck of an imagination. You have fun with your contest. :)

  3. I want to read these books! I’m really looking forward to Persuaded since Persuasion is my favorite of Jane Austen’s books. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  4. I have been to see the Temple Square lights a few times and they are breathtaking! I remember going as a little girl with my dad on a special date night. And we were able to take our kids a few years ago and it was fun to share the magic with them.

My favorite Jane Austen book (of the ones that I’ve read, since I haven’t yet read them all) is Pride and Prejudice. I think the description for Northhanger Alibi sounds fantastic!

  5. Oh my goodness 10 kids. And I thought I was stressed about gifts!
I have not seen the lights at Temple Square. My in laws served in SLC for 2 years but we were never able to make it up there. But they said that they started putting the lights up in June.

  6. I downloaded the sample chapters of this book on my Kindle and loved them. I’m hoping I get some Amazon Gift Cards for Christmas because this is a book I want to get.

I’m excited to see what she does with Emmalee. :)

  7. I have seen the lights on Temple Square which are always so beautiful. I want to take my son to see them because he is finally old enough to notice the Christmas lights in front of people’s homes and be impressed. He especially loves the blow up Santa’s and even a Christmas Train in front of one house.

  8. My favorite novel is Pride and Prejudice because it is the only one I have actually read, even though I have seen movies of the other books. One of my goals is to read her other books some day.
The book I am most interested in reading from her is Mansfield Ranch. It sounds like a story line I would be interested in as I have family members with adopted kids. But then again, they all sound fun and I will be putting all of them on my list of books to read.

  9. We were able to go see the lights on Temple Square just a few weeks ago. I even have a favorite tree. I love the big red tree that they only do every few years, it’s just so beautiful! It’s just not Christmas in Utah without going to see the lights on Temple Square!

  10. I love the lights at temple square. We have the lights here in Mesa, but there’s something special about Salt Lake. :) I’ve been waiting to read this book for a long time. The next one in Jenni’s series I’m most excited about hasn’t been written yet, #6 Sensible and Sensational since Sense and Sensibility is my favorite Jane Austin book. I follow this blog and twitter and like it on FB. :)

  11. I haven’t seen the lights on Temple Square yet this year. Life has been getting in the way of doing fun things with the kids. I’m hoping this weekend will be the time we can get away and go see the lights and enjoy the Christmas spirit downtown!

I am receiving the emails and I love it!

  12. No we haven’t, and we live in Utah. Sad, huh? However, we used to live in Arizona, and went a few times to see the lights there at the temple.

  13. I’m dying to read this book. And yes about Temple Square. We go every year. It’s only a half hour away. The kids LOVE it!;)

  14. I can’t remember… I want to say I’ve seen the lights on Temple Square, but I can’t recall exactly. That’s terrible!

  15. “Persuasion” was my favorite Jane Austen novel, so I’m thinking her “Persuaded” is one I’ll definitely have to check out!

  16. I couldn’t wait for my daughter to come home for Christmas during her break from college so we could start all the baking and making treats for the neighbors. It wouldn’t be the same without her. I enjoy hearing about everyone’s favorite Christmas memories.

  17. YOU WILL LOVE THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ON TEMPLE SQUARE!!! Your book looks wonderful…..can’t wait to read it!!!

I would have the choose Pride and Popularity……it just looks good!!!

  18. I subscribe to LDSWBR through e-mail and follow you on facebook too!

  19. I’m afraid that I have not seen the lights on Temple Square. Never been to Utah actually.

I think I would most like to read Persuaded and my favorite Jane Austen book would probably be Pride and Prejudice.
