Melanie Bennett Jacobson is an avid reader, amateur cook, and champion shopper. She consumes astonishing amounts of chocolate, chick flicks, and romance novels. After meeting her husband online, she is now living happily married in Southern California with her growing family and a series of doomed houseplants. Melanie is a former English teacher and a popular speaker who loves to laugh and make others laugh. In her down time (ha!), she writes romantic comedies for Covenant and maintains her humorous slice-of-life blog. Her third novel, Twitterpated, hits shelves in March.

LDSWBR: Do you find it easier or more difficult to write during the summertime? Why?
MELANIE: SO MUCH HARDER. It’s mainly because my littlest one just gave up naps and that was my sacred writing time, but it’s also because we don’t have a set daily routine where I’ve blocked out writing time. I don’t want to drag my kids back early from the beach just so I can write. It also doesn’t help that I’m in between projects right now, but I’m about to start outlining a new novel next week, so maybe I’ll hit my groove soon!
LDSWBR: Would you rather be in the pool or next to the pool?
MELANIE: Next to the pool, hands down. I’m always tucked up under my big, shady umbrella avoiding the splashes while I watch my kids play. I’ll go out if my toddler insists but I’d much rather not. Now, if I could just drift on an air mattress without small child water disturbances, that would be a different story.
LDSWBR: Ice cream or slushie? What flavor?
MELANIE: Ice cream. Butter pecan. Or maybe cookies and cream. Although mint chip is great in the summer. Then again, I kind of love straight up vanilla. Um, I guess ALL THE FLAVORS. But not chocolate. I don’t like chocolate ice cream or cake or milk. But I love chocolate everything else.
LDSWBR: Thanks, Melanie. Enjoy your summer!

Jessie Taylor is furious when her roommate secretly posts her picture on the dating website LDS Lookup — furious, that is, until she spends all night instant messaging Ben Bratton, a man whose wit and warmth just might make Jessie forget the train wreck of her last romantic relationship. Their first date is a smashing success (literally), but Ben’s overall awesomeness can’t save Jessie from having to deal with Craig, her competitive coworker whose baiting behavior sets new standards for obnoxiousness. Determined to beat Craig at his own game, Jessie spends long office hours finishing projects and putting out fires, but while her performance wows her boss, it only makes Ben skittish— after a failed engagement to an up-and-coming lawyer, he’s not about to pair up with someone who’s married to her job. Will Jessie figure out how to be true to herself and take her big chance at love before it’s gone with a click of the mouse?

Another book that I love! I’ve loved all of Melanie’s books and can’t wait for more from her. I also love that this book features online dating — I didn’t realize that’s how she met her husband!
I’m really excited to read this book! I started reading a sample and loved it! I can’t wait to read another hilarious book by Melanie Jacobson!

Can’t wait to read!!
This books looks great! I love this short questionnaire that you give the authors, and love their answers! It’s fun getting to know them a little better. Thanks!!
So far, I have only read “The List”! I loved it and can’t wait to read more of Melanie’s books! I also an avid reader; there are way too many books to read and not enough time. It’s fun getting to read author’s answers to these questions. Thanks for allowing us to get to know you better!
I am also an avid reader! So many books and never enough time! I love reading just about anything, but I am really into reading books by LDS authors. I love that they are great books without all of the unneccessary trashy garbage stuff put in!
I read “The List” and LOVED it! This book looks just as awesome!
Melanie’s books are amazing and so funny! Can’t wait to read more by her.
This book looks adorable! Can’t wait to read it.
Oh, how fun! I am exactly the same way with chocolate (as well as my second born). I’d love to win this book. Thanks, Melanie!
I have heard good things about this book. I’ve read some of Melanie’s other books and have really enjoyed them. Looking forward to reading this one!
Melanie rocks. I love her books. I’ve got this one and can’t wait to read it.
I Love Melanie’s books!!! Sooo much fun. I would love to be able to take my kids to the beach.
Melanie is such a talented writer–I’m excited that she has another novel planned. And I loved the little tidbit about chocolate…it gives us an insight into Pepper’s aversion to chocolate cake. :)
I am so excited to hear that Melanie is getting thoughts together for a new book!! My sister won a book from her a whole ago and now all the girls in my family love her books. They are hilarious and yet the situations could totally happen in real life. She is great!
I am so excited for this book! I found this author when I won “The List” during one of the past countdowns this site has done. That book made me laugh out loud and ever since I have had to read all her books. I have not read this one yet only because of a new addition to the family, but it is on my “to read” list.
My daughters love your books and I haven’t read any yet. I’m hoping life will slow down in a few months so I can get caught up on my reading! (And I’m with you, by the pool is best!).
I have read all of Melanie’s novels and I love them all! She’s such a great author!
