Josi began her first novel in 1998 and hasn’t stopped. Her novel, Sheep’s Clothing won the Whitney Award 2007 for Mystery/Suspense. Lemon Tart, the first book in the Sadie Hoffmiller Culinary Mystery Series was a Whitney Finalist for 2009. Book nine in the series, Baked Alaska, will be released in February 2013. Josi is the mother of four and currently lives in Willard Utah with her husband and family.

LDSWBR: Do you top your Christmas tree with a star, angel, or something else? Does it have special meaning to you?
JOSI: Star. A cheap one I bought at Target. But it’s silver–cause I prefer silver–and I prefer the star simply because that was the first sign of the Savior’s birth.
LDSWBR: What is your favorite Christmas movie? Why is it your favorite?
JOSI: “It’s a Wonderful Life” not only is it my favorite Christmas movie, it’s the only black and white movie I like. I feel it’s such a great reflection of the impact each of us have in the lives of others, and a reminder that really, really, hard stuff happens to us, and it’s family that gets us through it.
LDSWBR: What Christmas gift have you been most excited to give?
JOSI: Last year my husband and I were able to give our daughter a new Saxophone for Christmas. She’d been playing it for years, first with a rental and then a cheap one we bought that was 20+ years old. It was the last Christmas where she’d be living at home with us, and she was planning to join the U of U marching band so giving her a brand new, bright and shiny Saxophone was a really fun gift that reflected her years of hard work, and the new beginning she was soon going to embark upon. It was expensive and really pushed us, and yet the stunned look on her face and sincere thanks afterward made it all worthwhile. Last month we got to go to a U of U game and see her play it amid the band; a great moment.

Sadie Hoffmiller has relocated from Colorado to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and is starting a new job as an informant for the Bureau of Land Management on an archeological site. The sun and dirt blocks her initial excitement about the job, but she makes the best of it, using her baking prowess to help her gather background information on her fellow dirt geeks. Being in the middle of nowhere and digging up artifacts from hundreds of years ago is supposed to keep Sadie out of trouble until recent burials are found on the ancient site. Before Sadie knows it, she’s arrested for starting a bar fight, a new friend is missing, and she’s worn out her welcome in Santa Fe in more ways than one. But when a trip to the annual hot air balloon fiesta in Albuquerque leads to even more danger, she begins to wonder if she’ll ever be safe . . . from herself.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all if Josi K’s books full of mystery & suspense. I am excited to read about Sadie’s next adventure!!
I love “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Twelve Angry Men”. Both are wonderful B&W movies. “It’s a Wonderful Life” is great too, although I really should watch it again because it’s been awhile.
I’m so excited about the Countdown to Christmas! I’m off to spread the word right now. :)
One of my favorite B&W movies is Arsenic & Old Lace. Classic! I haven’t seen It’s a Wonderful Life in a few years because we wore it out.
I can’t wait for each Sadie Hofmiller adventure. Josi makes reading fun and adventurous. Her culinary books remind me of “Murder She Wrote”. I can’t wait to see what predicament she will put Sadie in next. I hope she includes Pete in future stories.
I don’t watch many black and white movies, but I do love Arsenic and Old Lace. I remember being in High school and it was a movie we had to watch for English class. While some kids were moaning at the idea, I was excited to watch a movie I had already seen and loved.
Another black and white movie I used to watch is the silent version of Ben Hur. I was kid when I’d watch this. It was a Christmas tradition for quite a few years when I was little. My aunt would come over and we’d watch it with her. I looked on Youtube to try and find out which year it was. It was the 1925 version. So funny that I used to watch that as a kid.
I have to be honest that I’m struggling to think of a black and white movie. I’m not sure I know of any. I vaguely remember IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE being in black and white, but I’m not 100% sure. I guess I have some research to do. :) Thanks for the giveaway! I love Josi’s books.
I love Josi’s books! Tres Leches was wonderful. My fav black & white is Wonderful Life, followed by Mockingbird. And does Wizard of Oz count? It starts as black & white.

I love the old movies with Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire dancing! Not sure if they are in black and white. I also absolutely love the movie Pillow Talk with Doris Day!! I don’t remember if that is black and white either…

I love “To Kill a Mockingbird”. I cannot remember the names of the others, but I watched a ton of black and white movies with my mom growing up.
I have read the first book in this series and really enjoyed it-now I need to catch up and read the rest.
I’m trying to think of black-and-white movies that I’ve seen and I think ‘It’s a Wonderful Life” is about the only one! And it’s a fabulous film! I loved Josi’s story about giving her daughter a saxophone — what a thoughtful gift!

Josi, I have so many black and white movies I dare you to watch and not like. Have you ever seen To Kill a Mockingbird, Arsenic and Old Lace? Alfred Hithcock movies. Black n white……its a wonderful life, miracle on 34th street, boys town, the original preachers wife.
I think I remember a few B&W movies, the original Wizard Of Oz, & The Ten Commandments.
My Mom said I watched the Miracle On 34th Street in B&W many years ago, I don’t remember it though.
As for black and white movies, I suprisingly enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird, and I also like any of the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies, but combining both black and white movies with Christmas movies, I really like the original Miracle on 34th Street. There is just someting about that story in the black and white format that makes it that much better, especially to watch at Christmas time.

It’s a Wonderful Life and Holiday Inn are definitely some of my favorite black and white movies (even though I prefer to watch the colorized version of Holiday Inn). I also watched Arsenic and Old Lace at school and thought that was pretty cool.
I like the black and white movie Without Reservations. Two of my favorite actors star in it John Wayne and Claudette Colbert.
I really love White Christmas with Bing Crosby. I took care of my mom who had dementia for 4 years. Before she got too bad, we would watch this together. She loved the old movies. Now when I watch it, it reminds me of her. I think they made this movie in color -not sure.

I love “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and another b&w movie I really like is “The Philadelphia Story.”

I have one that I love watching in black in white. Miracle on 34th St. I cant watch it any other way!
One of my favorite black and white movies is “Miracle on 34th Street.” I especially love to watch it with my family during the holiday season.
I love It’s a Wonderful Life. My kids don’t get why I like it so much because it’s boring with no color, but I still make them watch it every year. =)
