LDSWBR: Do you top your Christmas tree with a star, angel, or something else? Does it have special meaning to you?
HEATHER: We have a large star at the top of our tree that was a gift from my mother-in-law. She used to give us Christmas decorations for our Christmas gift each year. Now that she’s passed away, we treasure them even more.
LDSWBR: What is your favorite Christmas movie? Why is it your favorite?
HEATHER: “It’s a Wonderful Life”–I probably don’t see it every year, but it’s definitely a classic favorite because it’s very easy to relate to and always makes me feel more grateful for the blessings that I have.
LDSWBR: What Christmas gift have you been most excited to give?
HEATHER: Really anything that one of my kids have really wanted. When one of my daughters was about 3, we got her a toy horse that was large enough to sit on and pretend to ride. I’d find her in her room plenty of times, just sitting on her horse.
LDSWBR: There’s nothing like watching a child enjoy a gift. Thanks, Heather!

Athena is a self-proclaimed bachelorette—it’s better that way—no one gets hurt. But when tragedy strikes, Athena realizes friendship and love is the only way she can pull through, and she must, for the first time in her life, risk opening her heart.
The Newport Ladies Book Club series is unique in that each Newport book is written from the point of view of a different woman in the book club. The first 4 books cover the same time period and the same book club meetings. But only with reading all 4 books, will you learn the whole story of each of the women and her full character journey. Think of it as a parallel series, not as a forward-moving series.
Do you have a Christmas gift or item you treasure from a loved one who has passed?

Thanks for the highlight :-)
I’m really enjoying reading how everyone tops their Christmas tree! The questions you are asking are way fun! The one thing I have from someone who has passed is my great-grandma’s scriptures. I actually have them put away because they’re white and tend to get dirty, but when I had them out and read from them I always wondered what she was thinking when she marked things, not in a bad way, but in more of a what am I missing kind of way.
Just started reading ATHENA this week. I think it’s Heather’s best yet!
My grandma was very generous and always gave presents to not only her kids, but her grandkids and great-grandkids. Part of the gift to all of the adults was Charmin toilet paper. I’m not sure why she started doing the TP along with the other gifts (maybe she was inspired when the grandkids started going to college, and she knew we wouldn’t spring for the good stuff). Grandma has been gone for a few years, but around Christmas time I always remember her generosity and thoughtfulness. And, I can’t help but smile when I think of the gift of toilet paper. ;)
Heather, you are such an amazing writer. Thank you for sharing your talent. I have enjoyed all your books! I’m so glad you can write so fast, so keep them coming!
My great grandma gave me a music box that has a cameo type of design on the top. Its a good reminder of the classy lady she was. Also I have a spiral bound hymn book (to stay open on a piano) from another great grandma. It’s fun to go through and see some of the markings she made. Both have passed on, but those gifts are fantastic reminders of who they were and the legacies they have left.
I always have fond memories of my great-aunt, who would call me on my birthday and wish me the greatest and most happiest birthday of all time. She has been gone for a few years now, but I will always miss that phone call. I don’t think we realize how much we have until it is gone. Treasure EVERY moment with those you love!!!
I can’t wait to read this one! It’s such a good series!
We have a handful of homemade ornaments made by my grandmother who passed away many years ago. They are treasured by our family!
When I got married, almost 30 years ago, my grandma gave me 2 vases that she received when she got married! I still treasure those vases!
This is a little unusual, but my maternal grandmother had a beautiful voice and did a lot of singing, especially around Christmas. There are a few specific songs, or arrangements of songs that I sing and listen to every year because they remind me of her. I hope to pass them down to my children too.
This series has such a unique concept. Can’t wait to read these books!
Thankfully i still have all four grandparents and no family losses. My mom however has a special shadow box that contains ornaments from her grandma that she adored.
Both Grandma’s had the pretty clip earring’s, that the Granddaughter’s received after they passed away. Me and all of the granddaughter’s, have our ears pierced, so we’ve saved them in jewelry boxes. (that way, we won’t have to worry about wearing them and getting them lost.) Instead we admire them and try to remember when Grandma use to wear them.
I love books so I was so happy when my Grandma gave me the box set of The Little House on the Prairie books. I read them many times and am excited to pass them on to my kids.
My mom loved books, and since she has passed, I inherited them all. Those are the hardest to get rid of– there is not enough room in my house. Of course I have kept all my favorites.
I enjoyed ATHENA! I look forward to the next installments!
I’d love to read Athena!
Now that my mother is gone, I treasure the handmade Christmas cards she used to make.
My mom gave me an apron that my great grandma had made when she was about my age.
I didn’t get it at Christmas, but when my grandfather died I inherited a wooden calendar that my great-grandfather made. I love it.
It wasn’t at Christmas but me and my grandma made a quilt together and I remember her when I use it.
I have my Grandma’s Christmas Songbook. I enjoy sitting down at the piano and playing the songs in it. It reminds me of her.
My grandmother just passed away and while my Aunt was cleaning out her house she found presents wrapped that were addressed to me it was four teddy bears one with my name embroidered on the foot. I love teddy bears and even though we had been estranged she was going to give it to me anyway.
Most of my Christmas decorations belonged to my mother, who passed away just after I graduated HS. My sister gave them to me when I got married. I love to unwrap the ornaments each year and tell my kids stories about Grandma Margie and growing up. They are definitely my most treasured Christmas items.
