6 days until Christmas

tracihunterabramsonTraci Hunter Abramson was born in Arizona, where she lived until moving to Venezuela for a study-abroad program. After graduating from Brigham Young University, she worked for the Central Intelligence Agency for several years, eventually resigning in order to raise her family. And though Traci found her passion in caring for her family, she couldn’t manage to forget the action of the CIA, so she turned to writing about it. LDSWBR: What is your favorite Christmas song/hymn? Does it have special meaning to you?

TRACI: I love all Christmas music. I can’t say that I have one particular favorite, but two that I really enjoy are Silent Night and Angels We Have Heard on High. Both were ones I sang in choir when I was in high school and I think they just remind me of the true meaning of Christmas.

LDSWBR: Do you get together with friends/family to play board games on Christmas or New Year’s? What games do you like to play? Do you have a favorite game from your childhood?

TRACI: My family plays games all the time and holidays are no exception. Monopoly and Parcheesi were two of my favorites from my childhood and I still play those with my family. When we have our extended family over, we tend to play games like Apples to Apples or Boggle so we can include a lot of people at the same time. Cosmic Encounters is another one my nieces and nephews love to play at our house.

LDSWBR: If you could recommend only one book from those you read this year, what would it be and why?

TRACI: My favorite fictional adventure this year was actually a series I read with my son called the Ranger’s Apprentice series by John Flanagan. I enjoyed the adventure in these books and I was impressed by the author’s ability to challenge young readers to broaden their vocabulary without taking the reader out of the story. Most importantly, this series helped my son learn to love reading.

LDSWBR: Thank you, Traci!

  1. I sing in the ward choir and just today we sung two Christmas pieces, so I suppose that counts as a Christmas choir!

  2. I have sung in many a Christmas choir. It is always so fun and a bit more magical than being in a choir any other time of year. I love Traci Hunter Abramson!! I have all of her books except for this one and have gotten numerous friends stuck them as well. Great author!!

  3. I have participated in a Christmas Choir in the past but not recently. I really do love all of the church Christmas music because it brings back such great childhood memories.

  4. When I was growing up I went to a Catholic School, sixth, seventh and eighth had to sing for the mother’s club. The singing for mother’s club was in the evening. My never drove and dad always worked second shift. Where we lived nobody that went to St. Mary’s lived by us and mom never knew anybody. I told the nuns that I wouldn’t make it there to sing. I still had to practice singing even though they never I wasn’t coming. Every year I went through that, I tried to get out of practicing but it didn’t work. I guess it was better than being in class learning, lol!!!

  5. LOVED Lock and Key! I read ALL of Traci’s books :)

I have sung in MANY Christmas choirs!
Last one was 1 1/2 weeks ago with the Logan Towne Singers.

  6. I used to sing in the Ward Choir when I was younger. I wasn’t very good, but I think that having all of our voices blend together always sounded nice. Now I just prefer to listen to others.

  7. I’ve sung in ward choirs at Christmas, but nothing memorable.

  8. I have sung in our ward choir, and also a special stake choir a few years ago. I didn’t sing in one this year because I was sick, but loved listening to them!

  9. I have sung in the ward choir for many years now and have enjoyed it. What a great experience!

  10. I sing in the ward choir every year. It’s one of my favorite parts of Christmas! Love Traci’s books and this one looks great.

  11. I have sang in many ward and school choirs! And have been to sooo many with all my kids :)

  12. Nope, I’ve never sung in a Christmas Choir, but my family was just visited by a family who make up a lovely Christmas Choir. I definitely need to look into this book!

  13. I sang once in a ward choir when I was home visiting for Christmas during college. I didn’t practice, but sang nonetheless. :)

  14. I have when I was younger but not recently. I enjoy listening to the talented musicians our ward has!

  15. Only if you count ward choirs. My husband and children participate in Christmas choirs–they have better voices than I do. :)

  16. ha ha. no singing from me.

  17. I don’t do a lot of singing anymore, but from the time I was in junior high school until just a few years ago, I did sing in lots of Christmas choirs. I have many happy memories.

  18. I haven’t sung in any choir since high school. We did do Christmas songs around Christmas time, so I suppose that counts! :)

  19. No as my mother who disowned me says I don’t have the voice for it.
