9 days until summer!

aubreymaceAubrey Mace lives in Utah but every winter she considers moving somewhere warmer. She enjoys her job in an infusion center but wishes she had more time to spend with the people in her head– the ones who lure her in with the promise of a good story and never fail to surprise her. When she’s not consorting with them, she likes to hang out with her family and friends– the ones who walk the delicate line between supporting her writing addiction and keeping her grounded in reality. Aubrey has four published novels– Spare Change, My Fairy Grandmother, Santa Maybe, and Before the Clock Strikes Thirty. She also has a novella, The Science of Sentiment, which was included in the Timeless Romance Anthology Spring Vacation Collection.

LDSWBR: What book or movie reminds you of summer?

AUBREY: My favorite summer book is Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. I was assigned to read it in my sophomore English class and our teacher took us all out on the football field and we walked around barefoot in the grass. Still one of my favorite books ever; I try to read it every summer.

LDSWBR: Do you hike during the summer? If so, where is your favorite place to hike?

AUBREY: I do like to hike but I have to cover up pretty good– I love the sun, but it wants me to suffer! My favorite hike is Calf Creek Falls but I love Bryce Canyon too.

LDSWBR: What is the best book you’ve read so far this year?

AUBREY: The best book I’ve read so far this year is probably The Secret History by Donna Tartt. You already know whodunit on the first page and the story itself unfolds pretty slowly, but the character study is fascinating. Donna Tartt creates some of the most real characters I’ve ever met.

LDSWBR: Thanks, Aubrey!

  1. Not the best, but the most memorable was “Salem’s Lot” by Stephen King. I finished it late at night and I was so frightened I had to swallow my older sister pride and crawl into bed with my little sister. So she could protect me from vampires – I guess?? Can’t wait to read this book!

  2. I think my favorite book was Howl’s Moving Castle. I’ve never seen the movie, but the book was fabulous. I LOVED it! I’m really excited to read this book!

  3. Les Miserables. I feel like it was what made me really want to be a true Christian.

  4. I have read My Fairy Godmother and it was cute! I will have to read this one, too.

    I remember most 1984.

  5. This book looks so good! I read a lot in high school but I will probably always remember reading Fire of the Covenant by Gerald Lund for the first time.

  6. I remember having to read Anna Karenina. Honestly I don’t recall a lot of the story but up till then it was the longest book I’d ever read!

  7. I was home schooled and read enough on my own that I didn’t get an assigned reading list. Anne of Green Gables is probably my favorite book, and I discovered it when I was a teen, though.

  8. I really enjoyed reading To Kill a Mockingbird in high school, as well as Gone With the Wind.

  9. Oh man, that was so long ago (over 35 years). I loved A Wrinkle in Time, and Ray Bradbury books. I was also given an old copy of Jane Eyre from my seminary teacher and still have it.

  10. I agree with Lori. Too long ago to get specific. I read a lot of Phyllis A. Whitney. Loved A Wrinkel in Time but that was earlier than HS.

  11. To Kill A Mocking Bird, is definitely one of my favorites from High School, as well as Pride and Prejudice!

  12. I really liked The Count of Monte Cristo, but my favorite would probably have to be Jane Eyre! I loved that book so much! Before the Clock Strikes Thirty definitely looks awesome – I’m going to have to read it!

  13. I loved this book by the way! I honestly didn’t like most of the books we read in high school. Too depressing :(

  14. I did not like many of the books I was assigned to read in High School. I do remember loving a Teen Christian romance series that I loved. It was appropriate and the main character got to travel to Hawaii which was a place I had always dreamed of going to.
