Book Description:
Lauren Wilson is well on her way to her happily-ever-after. She has a career she loves, a husband she adores and a baby on the way, but a devastating diagnosis changes everything. The life she’s built suddenly crumbles around her when her husband insists she choose—the baby or him. Returning to her small hometown to rebuild her shattered life, Lauren crosses paths with Ethan Campbell, the man who stole her teenage heart. The old attraction is still there, but Lauren won’t admit it to anyone—least of all herself. Her only priority is providing a life for her child, and she can’t afford to get it wrong. Ethan is confusing everything, including stirring up feelings she’s not prepared to face. Will she spend her life raising her baby alone or is the family she’s always wanted finally within her reach?

Excerpt:

The students left the classroom, and Lauren rushed out to her car. She was anxious to go home and get on the road. She hadn’t been to Durango in months, and she couldn’t wait to have a break from school and to tell her mom that she was finally going to give her a grandchild.

Her stomach reminded her that she hadn’t eaten, so Lauren grabbed items out of her lunch sack and munched on them while she drove back to her condo.

Lauren finished packing her toiletries and set the suitcase by the front door. She called Paul to see where he was, but it went straight to his voicemail, so she texted him.

A few minutes later, he texted her back. I’m sorry. I can’t make it to Durango this weekend.

What? Why not?

Emergency conference with the Gilmores tomorrow.

Her heart beat rapidly. She wanted to slap the Gilmores. Saturday?

Yeah.

Paul knew how important this trip was to her. How could he cancel on her at the last minute? What about our trip?

I made a reservation for you.

To fly?

Yes.

When?

7:20 tonight on United.

Too expensive.

I’ve already paid for it.

Tears built in the corners of her eyes. I don’t want to go without you.

I can’t.

I wanted you to be with me.

Meeting is about to start. Flight 4920. Return on Monday.

She turned her phone over in her hand a few times. She desperately wanted to share the news with her family, but just as desperately wanted Paul to be there. It was their news. Together. If that meant they had to wait then so be it. We can go another time.

She waited for a response, but after ten minutes realized he wasn’t going to text her anymore. The disappointment stung. She wanted to share her news in person with her family, and she wanted Paul to be there with her. Why did it have to be so difficult?

If she didn’t go to Durango, her mom would be so upset. She didn’t want to be responsible for ruining her mom’s weekend like Paul had ruined hers, but she didn’t want to go alone either. It wasn’t fair that Paul was making her choose.

Lauren paced in the kitchen, her shoes clacking against the ceramic tile. What should she do?

My Review:

Rebecca is an author who knows how to write a heartfelt story and Imperfect Love follows suit. This story is full of raw and honest emotions that jump from one end of the spectrum to the other. Main character Lauren has so many hopes and dreams. When the thing she hoped for the most turns out differently than she imagined, my heart ached for her. I could easily relate to that feeling of being faced with what seems like a hopeless situation. Lauren’s character grows as she has to become independent and make some heart-wrenching decisions. Your own heart can’t help but be moved as she learns to love her precious son.

There are parts in this story that are not all sunshine and roses. This women’s fiction deals with some hard issues that many women have faced before in life. Rebecca handles everything well with fairness and great thought. Everything is well written in the hands of this seasoned author. Imperfect Love will make readers think about their lives, making hard decisions and realize that blessings sometimes come in packages that we least expect.

Home Matters Book Description
According to her mother, Olivia Pembroke was born to be a star. But how is she supposed to be famous when she can’t even get a decent acting gig? Her lucky break comes when she lands an audition for a wildly popular home improvement show. Even though she has no design training and has never even held a power tool, she refuses to let that stop her. She’s confident that her destiny is finally within reach. When her affections are torn between her heartthrob co-host and the irritating, yet somehow endearing lead contractor, does she continue to reach for the stars? Or does she design a new happily ever after? One that leads not to the fading lights of fame and fortune, but to a love that will burn forever.
 My Review
This novella was full of humor and romance. I love anything that author Julie N. Ford writes! I always know when I start reading a romance by her that it will have a good story. The plot pretty much played out the way I hoped it would. Main character Olivia is seeking fame and fortune, starts falling for her suave co-star William and another man on set, the hunky contractor, Pete. This love triangle has Olivia confused and her values and dreams are challenged. I was quite pleased at the outcome, but also wished the antagonist had gotten more what was coming to him. It you want a quick read full of clean romance, then you’ll enjoy Home Matters.

My Review
This series has been such a fun one to read. I love the main characters and the relationships that they have. There have been some rocky roads between Connor, Lexa and Melanie, but they work through the many ups and downs. This third and final book in the trilogy is full of action and many exciting things. As I read it, I thought of many of my students that would love to read this book.
It was great to see the ways the teen’s powers manifested in Luminescence. I also loved to see how they grew into their powers.I also liked the idea that their powers were even more effective when they combined them together. This was a strong message about working together.  The system of light and dark in this world is so creative! I like the way that Braden describes so easily for any reader to understand.

Speaking of ages, this book/series is a wonderful one to read together as a family. I’m always looking for books that I can enjoy reading with my 16 year old and my almost 12 year old. I do recommend that you read the first two books in the series first.

The ending of this trilogy fills you with so much emotion. There are parts where you laugh, scream and cry. There is the lesson of making sacrifices for friends and family. This theme is one that will let you have a good talk with your kids. I recommend that you read through the discussion questions too. You always know you’ve read a good book when you feel fulfilled when finished. That’s exactly what happened at the end of Luminescence. I’m excited to read what will come next from this talented author.

Book Description

Luisa May, known to her family and friends as Lu, loves to play games with her grandma. When she’s bullied at school, Grandma has a special puzzle for Lu to help her see how valuable she is—no matter what others say, or how much doubt she feels within herself. Soon after, Grandma has to go to the hospital, and Lu finds out Grandma needs help recovering. Then it’s Lu’s turn to help Grandma see how valuable she is—no matter how much doubt she feels within herself. It’s a beautiful parallel for young and old alike, as each age learns from the other.

Written and illustrated with loving hands, this delightful children’s story offers a heartfelt message that unites and bonds generations. From the award-winning pen of Fay A. Klingler, I Am Strong! I Am Smart! provides to women of all ages a reminder of the tremendous gift of “girl power.”

My Review
I loved this new children’s book I Am Strong! I Am Smart! The cute story of Luisa May and her Grandmother illustrates the love that they share. Grandma helps Lu learn lessons about loving herself by teaching her that she is smart and important after she has been bullied at school. Then when Grandma has a stroke, Lu turns around and helps Grandma realize how smart she is and how she can reach her goals of recovering from the stroke. This book would be a beautiful gift for a Grandma to give her grandkids or vice-versa. Any book that shares a message that every person is a special child of God and can be strong and courageous, is a winner. I will share this book with my family and those I know.

 Book Description
Every girl needs a mentor, someone she can trust to show her the way home to Heavenly Father. The stakes are high as women of influence, how we live and how we teach Heavenly Father’s daughters will change the course of their lives forever.

Using compelling real-life stories from women of all ages, award-winning author Fay A. Klingler clearly defines how and why we must continue to live and teach the Young Women values. We Are Strong! Beautifully illustrates how powerful a faithful woman’s example can be.

My Review
I really liked the format in which Fay wrote this book. It follows the Young Women’s Values. With the wonderful stories of young and older women learning these principles, there is something for everyone to relate to. I also love how Fay sums up the end of each chapter, by saying: 1)Why do we teach our daughters about the value and then 2) How to teach our daughters about the value. This book is one that every LDS women should read with their daughters or granddaughters. I’m planning on doing this with my 16 year old daughter.

Here are some of the key points that struck home with me. Actually it was hard not to quote the whole book. I chose some examples from the first few chapters and Young Women Values that were discussed.

Faith
-Where there is gratitude there is spirituality.
-We always have a choice whether we are going to listen and
obey the Lord.

-We teach our daughters to live by faith because
by faith we receive answers to our prayers. Why do we teach our daughters faith? To give
them hope. We share the key tool that will help them
bring about and recognize miracles in their own lives.

Divine Nature
One big difference between physical characteristics and divine
traits is we have the ability to diminish or enhance the divine by
the choices we make.

-As women of all ages, if we are not
watchful, experiences may confuse and entice us away from our
birthright—the beautiful, the sacred, and the divine.

I feel like it was a blessing to read this book. I”m so grateful for the opportunity to review it. I needed the guidance in this book to help me in my parenting as a single mom and to a mother of a young woman.

Overall, this book is my top choice for gift giving on Mother’s Day.It’s a timely addition considering what’s going on in the world today. This book will change women and remind them who they are. It will lift women up and ingrain in their minds how important they are in God’s plan.

 My Review:
I’m always excited to read and try out a new recipe/diet book. I am always trying to lose some pounds and I’m looking for the way that will work for me. This book had an interesting premise. The idea is to eat by an 8-hour diet or eating schedule. You fast for sixteen hours and only eat during the 8-hour window for at least three days out of the week. The idea behind this is that naturally you cut out excessive calories and enable your body sufficient time to do a daily and crucial overhaul. This helps with fat loss and turning your body into a fat burning machine, where regular dieting causes muscle loss. The book also states that fasting promotes the increase of the human growth hormone which keeps us from aging, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and wrinkles.

Well, I’ve never tried this method before. You skip breakfast and I’m a big breakfast person. I wasn’t able to fully try the diet yet, but I did try many of the yummy recipes. I am game to give the diet a go because the author lost a lot of weight following an 8-hour diet and she is a registered nurse. I wanted to share with you some of the recipes my family really liked.

-Chicken Lettuce Wraps (Shauna said she tried to make them as close to possible as P.F. Chang’s lettuce wraps that I love!!)

-Herb-Crusted Salmon

-Harvest Garden Chili

-Mango Spinach Salad

-Berry Peach Cobbler

The best part about these recipes are that they taste very yummy! You would never even think that they were “diet” recipes. Just for this fact alone that they are great healthy recipes, this cookbook is worth the money.I’m excited to read Shauna Evans’s other cookbook.

& Three Historical Romance Novellas

In Maggie’s Song, a charming story by Karey White, Maggie Jensen is part of a trio of best friends with Lucas and Dan. Together, they own and run Wild Country Hiking Tours. When Lucas returns to the company after getting his college degree, Maggie realizes that the crush she had on him as a teenager has now blossomed into so much more. But when her mom finds a mysterious letter from a woman named Dot in Seattle, Wren decides to visit the woman herself to deliver the news in person. Wren learns of the bucket list Dot and Gramps had put together with the help of Dot’s grandson, Seth, and Dot challenges Wren to take her grandfather’s place in completing the list. Before the week of adventure is over, Seth has impressed Wren in more ways than one. But is that enough to overcome Wren’s fear of losing those she loves?

How to Rewrite a Love Letter, an enthralling novella by Diane Darcy, high school teacher Julie Ashburn believes she’ll never live the “event” down in which she wrote her true feelings in a love letter to Principal Dane Parker, and he laughed out loud, mocking her. Now that her honors English students want to write love letters for the school fundraiser, Dane turns down the idea flat. Julie tries to convince him that it was her students’ idea and not any sort of payback. But when a student writes a fake love letter from the principal to Julie, everything gets even more mixed up, and both Julie and Dane are caught up in a series of misunderstandings that might be impossible to sort out.

In Sarah M. Eden’s delightful story, A Thousand Words, Shannon Ryan has been waiting half a year to be reunited with her fiance, Patrick, with only the letters between them keeping their relationship alive. He finally sends for her after securing a good job with the Sidney newspaper, and she can’t wait to be reunited with him, swept up in his arms and thoroughly kissed. And of course, married as soon as possible. But when she arrives at the train station, there is no Patrick waiting for her. Shannon must discover if the man she loves still has feelings for her.

Between the Lines is a sweet romance by Annette Lyon. Jane Martin is intelligent but extremely shy, especially around men. When the Aid and Cultural Society proposes a letter-writing program, Jane signs up, hoping she can find true friendship. The program doesn’t run as smoothly as expected, and unknown to Jane, one of the men in her city becomes her writing friend. Thomas Allred has always known shy and quiet Jane, but reading her letters written to his secret persona, opens his eyes to what an amazing woman she is. The only trouble is, Jane doesn’t know that the man who she is falling in love with through letters is also Thomas, the man who is falling in love with her in person.

In the enchanting novella, Blackberry Hollow, by Heather B. Moore, Lucy Quinn travels to England to inspect her inherited estate. Unfortunately, as a resident of New York and nearly engaged, Lucy needs put the house on the market. But first, she wants to learn more about her ancestors. What she doesn’t expect is Calvin Bevans, the man living next door. The two families have been divided by a misunderstanding decades old, and when Lucy discovers a set of love letters, she learns the truth. As Calvin helps her unravel the hidden secrets between the two families, Lucy finds that she has more reasons to stay in England than to return to New York. And Calvin is at the top of that list.

 My Review:

The new Timeless Romance Anthology, The Love Letters Collection, is a perfect read for Valentines Day. I loved the combination of contemporary and historical stories. There is a story to fit your every mood and reading tastes. The unique thing that binds all six stories together is that there are love letters in every novella. From the first story, Maggie’s Song, where two best friends finally confess their love through some letters (This happy ending gave me chills and I gave a huge sigh) to the last story, Blackberry Hollow where two great grandchildren of former lovers become close themselves(and maybe more…you need to read it yourself!). These romance stories are high on the clean factor and zero on anything erotic. All of the stories are written with appealing characters whose stories stayed in my mind days after reading them.

I love how each of these stories are told. I have become a true lover of these novellas. The Timeless Romance Anthologies are always quick easy reads. They never fail to make me smile. As a busy woman I like to be able to read a story and have it resolved quickly. A full length novel doesn’t always work with my busy schedule of working full-time and being a single mom.

Do yourself a favor and pick up this new collection of romance stories. They are well written by authors I’ve come to trust, and they know how to deliver a great story.
