Book Description:

For any woman who’s ever felt like she’s hanging on by a single thread, this inspiring book reveals the truth: you’re surroundedby threads of strength and power that can bring you safety, peace, and lasting happiness. All you have to do is grab hold of them. Uplifting and empowering, this book offers women everywhere a message of hope.

My Review:

This was a book I needed to read right at this time of my life. So many times, things happen that make you feel so powerless. This book helps you realize that you do have the power inside of you to change your life, with the Lord’s help.

Faye Klingler also helps you understand how strong you really are, and to just keep trying.

“It is amazing how much more we can handle than we believe we can. Honestly, we have tremendous reserves we’re not even aware of. Our creative abilities will grow as we recognize new avenues to achieve our ambitions. We can reevaluate where we’re headed and how we want to get there. Determine where we are now. What went right? What went wrong? Why? Pat ourselves on the back for trying. We can then begin to feel a sense of satisfaction not just for those workable parts that go well and are accomplished, but for the times we tried, even if it didn’t work. The act of trying, or the act of getting back up and trying again, is an accomplishment to be applauded.

There were so many moments, while reading A Woman’s Power, that I wanted to stand up and cheer. There were also many “A-hah” moments too. Such as this one…

As in any loving relationship, communication is available between Heavenly Father and His daughters. He knows what we are doing, what we are feeling, and what we are thinking. And He expects us to reason things out and decide our own path. The beauty of it is that with the gift of choice comes divine guidance just for the asking. Well, no, not always “just for the asking.” After all, what kind of parent would give his child everything he or she asked for, especially if the parent knew it wouldn’t be in the best interest of the child (or in the best interest of those associated with the child)?

I truly have never looked at it that way before, but when Fay wrote it from a parent’s perspective, I could understand that! I have had to make that decision many times as a parent. Our loving Heavenly Parent does love us and knows us better than we know ourselves.

A Woman’s Power has so many important messages in one tiny book. Here are some of the chapter titles:

-Identity

-Prayer

-Awareness

-Obedience

-Goal Setting

-Patience

This book will be one that I will keep close by and refer to often. It helped me remember who I am, and the potential that lies within me. It also encourages you to develop an even closer relationship with your Father in Heaven. You can feel the love that was put into writing this book. There is also a sense of peace you feel after reading A Woman’s Power. I hope that you will also want to read this book, and seek after the power that is within you.

Title: Dating a Widower: Starting a Relationship With A Man Who’s Starting Over
Author: Abel Keogh
Publisher: Ben Lomand Press
Published: August 25th 2011
ISBN# 10: 0615528392
Softcover: 116 pages
Reviewer: Sheila
FTC FYI : I received a free copy of the book from the author. In no way did this influence the review that was given.

The Back Cover Blurb:

Are you thinking about dating a widower? Your new relationship will
have unique challenges you won’t find when dating single or divorced
men. For it to work, the widower will have to put his feelings for his
late wife to the side and focus on you. But how do you know if he’s
ready to take this step?

Drawing on his own experience as a widower who’s remarried, Abel
Keogh gives you unique insight into the hearts and minds of widowers,
including:

  • How to tell if a widower’s ready to make room in his heart for you
  • Red flags that may indicate he’s not ready for commitment
  • How to handle family and friends who aren’t supportive of the widower’s new relationship
  • Tips for dealing with holidays and other special occasions

Dating a Widower is your 101 guide to having a
relationship with a man who’s starting over.  It also contains over a
dozen real life stories from women who have gone down the same road
you’re traveling. It’s the perfect book to help you decide if the man
you’re seeing is ready for a new relationship—and whether or not dating a
widower is right for you.

I was very interested when I first heard of this book. As a single, divorced woman I have a good chance of someday dating a Widower. I felt like this book is an excellent resource for woman. Abel gives clear and straight forward information. There is no beating around the bush as he gives his advice, coming from his own experiences as a former Widower. Abel also gives wonderful advice for anyone just dating. I felt like this was a study guide for me, as I haven’t jumped into the dating world since my divorce.

One of the main messages I really appreciated from this book, were the “Red Flag” warning signs women should be aware of. These are things to look for to see if a man is not ready to commit to you or anyone else yet. I also liked the advice of knowing when to let go and move on to someone else. I can see how this would truly save a lot of heartache for both individuals.

Also included in this book is a section near the end for the Widowers called, “Ten Dating Tips for the Widower”. This book is ideal for men as well as women.

I highly recommend this book for women and men who find themselves back in the dating world, especially after a death of a spouse. I know that I will be keeping, Dating a Widower: Starting a Relationship with a Man Who’s Starting Over, close by. Abel Keogh is an fantastic author, who has poured a lot of heart and soul into sharing his experiences. As a woman who someday may be living through this experience, I am grateful for him choosing to help others by writing this book.

Department

This book is an unexpected and very welcome gift to the community of churches and their leaders. It addresses so many of the problems that children, you
ng adults,

and adults with disabilities face in church activities.

—Brenda Winegar, Early Interventionist/Cofounder, Kids on the Move

I was Primary President for four years. During those years I had the opportunity to work with many children, many of those with special needs. There were children in our primary that were autistic and many with ADHD, including my own children. Being a teacher, I felt like I had a little bit of knowledge of how to help these children enjoy their experience at church. There wasn’t a lot of information available to help me and my counselors to know how to help these children at the time. So when I read the book, (dis) Abilities and the Gospel: How to Bring People with Special Needs Closer to Christ, I knew that this book was inspired. As I read the book, I was so excited to see how Danyelle and Lynn have provided so much information for those working with people that have special needs. The wonderful thing about this book is that even though it is written for people in the LDS church, the ideas will work for anyone of any religion.

Listed here are the section titles and a few of the chapter titles that go
with the sections:

GENERAL INFORMATION
-Gospel Views on Children with Special Needs
-Demystifying the Diagnosis

TEACHING STRATEGIES
-A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
-Power Card Strategies

YOUNG MEN & YOUNG WOMEN
-Teaching Youth with a Broader Gap in Needs

-Church Callings
-Love One Another

FAMILIES
-Sacrament Meeting Survival
-Scripture Power
-Can I Make It Through Another Day?
-Building Parent-Child Relationships

I AM A CHILD OF GOD
-Expressions of Faith and Love

One other thing that I feel needs to be pointed out. Many of the things talked about in the wonderful book can be applied to all children, not just those with special needs. I was so impressed with the information and ideas that Lynn and Danyelle shared in this book. My hope is that all wards/branches/homes will purchase this book and then use the ideas found in the book. I think that this would be a worthwhile way of using ward budget money, so the books can be given to Primary and Young Men and Young
Women leaders. Just my humble opinion people. I give this book 5 stars!!
