Goodreads Summary

Some people bomb auditions. Sadie Ramirez throws up during her tryouts on TV show America’s Top Talent. Her performance is so bad, it earns her a fairy godmother through the Magical Alliance’s Pitiful Damsel Outreach Program. Enter Chrysanthemum Everstar: a gum-chewing, cell phone-carrying, high heel wearing fairy godmother in training. She misinterprets Sadie’s wishes and sends her back in time to be a part of The Little Mermaid story and then makes her one of the twelve dancing princesses. Wishes are permanent, and if Sadie wants to get back to her home, she’ll have to strike a magical bargain–one that involves stealing a goblet from a powerful fairy queen.

My Review

I absolutely love how clever Janette’s writing is.  She is a master.  Each line is expertly written, and funny.  I have been a fan of this series for a long time, and I was so excited to read this book!

I loved this book, it was so fun.  I absolutely love Chrissy and her attempts to help her charges with wishing for a way out of their problems.  Poor Sadie.  Poor, poor Sadie.  This poor girl has THE worst audition ever and gets stuck in Chrissy’s version of “help”.  Along the way she meets Donovan, who is trapped in the fairytale too.  I enjoyed how we gradually got to know him and learn his story.  (I loved him, by the way.)  I liked the twist of Sadie and Donovan getting involved in stealing back a goblet from the fairy queen, and in doing so, get to know each other.  I really enjoyed the scenes in the fairy queen’s kingdom.  Sadie’s growth as a character was fun to watch and I loved the ending.

4 out of 5 stars.  Like any book of Janette’s, there is lots of humor, fun, and romance.  With how the book ends, it seems there will be another, which makes me happy!

Goodreads Summary

When Ash Summerland left the Academy of Magical Beings, he was sure he’d put his troubles behind him. But when his girlfriend, Kendall, is almost killed by an old enemy over something he knows little about, Ash is forced to confront the demons of his past.

With his fairy magic fading and his darker djinn magic more powerful than ever, Ash isn’t sure he can stop the evil from closing in around him. Although Kendall is the only thing keeping him from going over the edge, if he can’t learn to balance out his magic and find a way to defeat his enemies once and for all, both his world, and the girl he loves will be lost forever.

My Review

I LOVED Not Your Average Fairy Tale by Chantele.  Everything about it was magical.  If you are new to this series, I would read Fairy Tale first.  That being said, I was thrilled with the release of Happy Ending, as I knew it would be just as enjoyable as the first.  I was right.  Like the first book, both Ash and Kendall are telling the story from their point of view, rotating chapters.  We find out at the beginning, from Ash, that three months has passed.  Ash has been living in the human world in an apartment near Kendall, while she is in school.  While Ash is getting used to the whole “half djinn/half fairy” thing, Kendall is nearly killed by Dax, Ash’s half brother.  He wants something from Kendall that confuses Ash as to the reasoning behind it.  This starts a chain of events that lead to many battles, healing, dragons, banshees, and many more exciting adventures that lead to more questions for Ash and being lead to those who have been lost.

4 out of 5 stars.  I really enjoyed Happy Ending.  Just like the first book, Chantele did an amazing job with character development and plot.  I was drawn immediately back to Kendall and Ash’s world and what I loved about their relationship in Fairy Tale, was just as fabulous in Happy Ending.  Chantele is not only an amazing author, she is a great friend of mine.  I love her books and can’t wait for more titles from her.

Goodreads Summary

~Becoming a winter queen will make Ilyenna as cold and cruel and deadly as winter itself, but it might be the only way to save her people from a war they have no hope of winning.~

Mortally wounded during a raid, seventeen-year-old Ilyenna is healed by winter fairies who present her with a seductive offer: become one of them and share their power over winter. But that power comes with a price. If she accepts, she will become a force of nature, lose her humanity, and abandon her family.

Unwilling to pay such a high price, Ilyenna is enslaved by one of the invaders, Darrien. While in captivity, she learns the attack wasn’t just a simple raid but part of a larger plot to overthrow her entire nation.

With the enemy stealing over the mountains and Darrien coming to take her to his bed, Ilyenna must decide whether to resurrect the power the fairies left behind. Doing so will allow her to defeat Darrien and the other invaders, but if she embraces winter, she will lose herself to that destroying power—forever.

My Review

I was immediately taken in to Ilyenna’s world.  I found myself reading way past my bedtime and only stopped out of sheer exhaustion.  This world that the author has created is harsh, but amazing.  Your heart breaks for these characters as you read their struggles.  Each character is written with care and the bad guys are the meaning of the word bad.  I cheered, gasped, and cried many times.  I never knew what was coming next.  I really enjoyed the fairy twist and the surprises that it would bring to the story.  I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.  There is some war violence and other violence, but nothing that affected my reading.

5 out of 5 stars.  Amber is a very talented writer.  I am a big fan of her writing.  I really enjoyed her Witch Song series and I reviewed both Witch Song and Witch Born.  Book 3 of the Witch Song series, Witch Fall, is expected this month.  Summer Queen is expected next year.  Currently Witch Song and Witch Born are on sale for $2.99.  Winter Queen is $3.99!

Winter Queen was nominated for 2013 Whitney Award.  The finalists will be announced January 2014.

Amber is also doing a YA Scavenger Hunt, more details are on her blog.  She’s giving away over 17 books!
