Goodreads Summary

Six Award-Winning Authors have contributed new stories to A Timeless Romance Anthology: Spring Vacation Collection. Readers will love this collection of six sweet contemporary romance novellas, centered on a Spring Vacation, all with one thing in common: Romance.

In Moonlight Kiss, a delightful story by Josi S. Kilpack, Sarah is looking forward to the company retreat, namely because she’ll finally meet Clint—the man she’s been Instant Messaging for a few months. As a single mom, Sarah gets out . . . well, never. So adding vacation days onto the retreat so she can spend time with Clint is daring, yet exciting. She just hopes that the suave on-line Clint will live up to the man she hopes to share her heart with.

In Annette Lyon’s charming novella, Chasing Tess, Tess had been patiently waiting through three years of law school for James to pop the question. The night has finally arrived—at his graduation party. But his big announcement turns out to be completely unexpected . . . and devastating. Tess flees the party, promising herself she’ll never let herself waste time on James again. But as she makes a desperate cross-country drive, James makes his own plans on how to win her back.

Dancing at the Flea Market is a sweet romance by Heather Justesen. Mara, fresh out of the cold North Dakota tundra, spends her spring break in Texas with close friend, Anna. When the two women run into Carter, an impatient man with a painful past, it takes hearing Mara’s stunning voice at the local Karaoke club to thaw his heart. But as Mara gets to know Carter, she has to decide if the distance between their lives and homes is worth trying to bridge.

In Sarah M. Eden’s captivating novella, The Best Laid Plans, Madison gives up a vacation to Cancún with her office friends to return home and babysit her mother, who is in another sketchy relationship. The only problem with returning home is running into Derek, her ex-boyfriend who she decided to break up with before he could break up with her—Madison believes in always being one step ahead. When Derek teams up with Madison to investigate whether her mother is dating the right guy, Madison has a hard time ignoring what her heart is telling her about giving Derek another chance.

Picture Perfect, an exciting story by Heather B. Moore, follows Gemma who has never done anything out of the ordinary, until her boyfriend Randy starts to ignore her. But even cutting and dyeing her hair doesn’t get his attention. She decides to join her old high school friends for spring vacation, only to be faced with Drew, her best friend who suddenly seems interested in her as more than a friend. Gemma must determine if her heart is on the rebound or if it’s finally met its true match.

In Aubrey Mace’s enchanting romance, The Science of Sentiment, Rosie will do anything to forget Kevin, his completely perfect kisses, and the fact that he dumped her. When she arrives at her grandfather’s mountain cabin for a spring getaway, she discovers her worst nightmare—Kevin has been invited to stay the weekend too. Since there is only room for one in such a small space, Rosie is determined to kick Kevin out. But Kevin has other plans . . . which might include a reminder of why he’s the perfect kisser.

Mindy’s Review

This is a very enjoyable book full of six well-written and fun short stories.  Each one is very unique, and most importantly, clean romances with awesome characters.  I was quickly taken into each story with their fun plots and spring settings.  As I was reading each story, I was sure it was my favorite, then I would start the next one, and it became my new favorite.  Each story has its share of great kisses.  The kiss in Heather Moore’s Picture Perfect… WOW!

5 out of 5 stars.  As you finish each story, you will be happily wanting more.  I can’t wait for Summer Wedding Collection in May.

Shanda’s Review

The A Timeless Romance Anthology series has proven that a short love story can still be big on romance. I enjoyed each one, amazed at how well each author packed a full story into a smaller page count without making it feel rushed or incomplete.

My favorite was Sarah Eden’s The Best Laid Plans. I’m going to quote my notes directly: “Sigh (big smiley face). Loved it. Maddi & Derek – great couple. Good story. Nice romance.” I agree with Mindy about the kiss in Picture Perfect. I was pleasantly surprised with the little turn the story took in Chasing Tess. It was happily not what I expected.

If you like a good romance, check out A Timeless Romance Anthology: Spring Vacation Collection. I’m anxiously looking forward to the next installment, A Timeless Romance Anthology: Summer Wedding Collection. I got a sneak peek at Melanie Jacobson’s Love Bytes and, well, I loved it.

Back cover:  “Before he could think better of it, he blurted out, “I understand your concerns. I’m going to speak to my commander about getting an early discharge. My girlfriend, Rena, and I have talked about getting married. There just hasn’t been any rush.”  As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he wondered what he was thinking. Yes, they had discussed marriage, but not to each other! He and Rena had never even dated.

Tucker’s on his way to the biggest challenge of his life. Rena already has it all—except a family of her own. But neither one expected their friendship would take such a dramatic turn.

When Tucker becomes the guardian of his newly orphaned niece and nephew, he knows he can’t handle them alone, not when he might be shipped out with the Marines at any moment. Desperate, he turns to Rena for a major favor. His marriage proposal would give her everything she wants, but can she learn to live without the romance she’s always dreamed of?

As time, prayer, and a life-changing kiss work a little magic in her heart, Rena wonders if someone up there has a plan for her that’s better than anything she could’ve come up with on her own. And though it seems crazy at first, this could become her chance for a marriage that will last for eternity.”

My Review

Rena and Tucker have been friends for 10 years. They both have had their own broken heart stories and have relied on each other many times in the past. When Tucker approaches Rena with a proposal, she is stunned. Sure, they’ve talked about marriage to other people, but Rena never thought the day would come. Tucker needs her help. Rena’s decision will affect the rest of her life.

I absolutely loved this book. The characters are so well written and the story flows with a great amount of feeling and heart.  Each character is important, and I appreciated the author’s eye for detail.  Rena takes on a huge responsibility. After her decision is made, however, she never looks back.  She always has a prayer in her heart.  Even with that, there doesn’t mean there won’t be challenges.  When she is making decisions for Derek and McKensie, she thinks of their mom Haylie, and what she would do. I liked that. The author has a great way of showing real life. The children went through a terrible thing and were not immediately cured by the marriage. Derek especially needs help, and I thought it was handled in a great way.

The book is about family and design. Rena is a very talented designer, and I enjoyed being there with her. Another thing I enjoyed was the glimpses of Tucker serving his country, and the thoughts going through his mind while he was away from his new family. There is also another surprise that I thought was really clever and sweet.

4 out of 5 stars. I knew I was going to love this book when there are mentions of Harry Potter and my favorite line from Empire Strikes Back.  I want to thank Heather for asking me to be a part of her blog tour. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.

Also, as a special promotion for anyone who buys a book before February 5th, you can get a free ebook for her companion novella, “Shear Luck.” Once you buy a copy of her book go here (link) to get your free copy. http://www.heatherjustesen.com/shear-luck

As if that weren’t enough, Heather’s holding a host of giveaways on her blog throughout the next few weeks, see the rules at the bottom of this post to enter.

Here’s the blurb for Shear Luck:

Chelsea Robison has never forgotten the older boy next door whom she crushed on as a teen, so when she runs into him at the restaurant he’s preparing to open, it’s a delightful shock. And learning he’s available again is more than a little tantalizing.

Vaughn Krenshaw had never seen his neighbor as more than a nice kid—but Chelsea had definitely grown up in the decade since they saw each other last. He’s attracted to the feisty red head, but still struggles over his wife’s death the previous year. And then there’s his five-year-old daughter, Molly, who really liked Chelsea—until she realized the woman was dating her dad.

As Chelsea starts to wonder if their love for each other will be enough to make things work, a specter from Vaughn’s past rises, making her question whether she really knew him at all.

Old Friends, New Friends

One of the best parts about the LDStorymakers Conference is meeting up with old friends. Another is making new friends who will be old friends next year. Part 1 of our LDStorymakers Podcast series is a collection of interviews with L.T. Elliot, Karen Hoover, Donald J. Carey, Rebecca Talley, and Heather Justesen. I was so caught up in talking with these wonderful people that I completely forgot I had my camera with me, so the only picture I have of any of them is LDSWBR with Heather. Lesson learned for next year!

12 Days until Christmas!

Heather Justesen’s recently published book, The Ball’s in Her Court, is her first novel. Heather’s second book, Rebound, featuring secondary characters from The Ball’s in Her Court, will be released in May 2010.

The Ball’s in Her Court can be purchased at Deseret Book, www.amazon.com, and www.barnesandnoble.com, as well as in stores at the Sandy and Orem locations of Barnes & Noble.

Learn more about Heather on her website: www.heatherjustesen.com and her blog: Heather Justesen.

LDSWBR: What favorite holiday traditions do you and your family participate in every year, and will you be starting any new traditions this year?

HEATHER: Every year when there are kids around we hide the presents all over the house with one package for each kid in each spot. Then one of the adults makes up a really lame rhyming clue about where the presents are and the kids race to find them. This takes what could otherwise be a ten-minute orgy of wrapping-paper ripping fun into a slower-paced hour or more of exciting discoveries. Our family has done this since I was in elementary school and now the grand kids love it as much as we did. Unfortunately, there will be no grandchildren in town this year as all of my siblings have opted to stay home for a change.

LDSWBR: Heather, what books are on your Christmas wish list?

HEATHER: I’m dying to read Jessica Day George’s Princess at the Midnight Ball, Julie Wright’s Eyes Like Mine and Michele Paige Holmes’ All the Stars in Heaven.

LDSWBR: What books have you purchased/will you purchase for loved ones this Christmas? (Don’t ruin any surprises!)

HEATHER: I picked up Mormon Mishaps and Mischief for my mother-in-law and I plan to pick up James Dashner’s Maze Runner for my husband. I’m still waffling on a few others.

LDSWBR: Thank you, Heather. We hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

Diony George’s first novel, Torn Apart, had it’s second edition release in February 2009. She is currently working on a book titled Shaded View, the story of a wife and mother who thinks getting a divorce will fix everything wrong in her life. She learns the answer is changing herself.

Torn Apart can be purchased at Seagull Book, Deseret Book, www.amazon.com and on Diony’s personal blog: The Sun Always Returns After the Rain and website: tornapartbyporn.com. She is currently offering signed copies on sale for Christmas.

More about Diony: Author Diony George is a dedicated wife and mother of seven. Originally from Alaska, she enjoys traveling, cooking, applique quilting, and spending time with her family. Through personal experience she’s become passionate about helping those whose lives have been drastically affected by pornography addiction. She currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah with her husband Daryl, and their children.

LDSWBR: Diony, what favorite holiday traditions do you and your family participate in each year? Will you be starting any new traditions this Christmas?

DIONY: Every Christmas Eve we have a special program in the evening with our family by candlelight and the lit Christmas tree. Everyone participates by sharing a story, a song, a skit or a poem. We sing carols around the piano, ending with my husband reading the Christmas Story from the Bible found in Luke. We have homemade cookies and treats, as well as warm spiced cider afterward and the children can choose to open one gift.

LDSWBR: What books are on your Christmas wish list?

DIONY: Women of the Old Testament by Camille Fronk Olson and Elspeth Young; Saving Madeline by Rachel Ann Nunes.

LDSWBR: What books have you purchased/will you purchase for loved ones this year?

DIONY: Worldwide Ward Cookbook by Deanna Buxton–I can’t say who for!

LDSWBR: Thanks for sharing with us, Diony, and thank you so much for donating a signed copy of Torn Apart for our drawing! Best Christmas Wishes to you and your family.

Is your Christmas Morning one big free-for-all, or do you take turns opening presents? How do you control the chaos? Or do you even try?

Don’t forget to nominate your favorite 2009 books by LDS authors for Whitney Awards by December 31! Can’t remember what you read? Visit the LDS Publisher blog for a list of books published by LDS authors in 2009.
